PlayStation Store Banned in China!

The PlayStation Store has been suspended indefinitely in mainland China, pending an investigation by the Chinese government into alleged security issues.

Analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners took to Twitter with the news.

“The PlayStation Store has been temporarily suspended in Mainland China from 7 am on May 10. No time or date given for resumption of services, he wrote.

“The official reason given is to carry out security upgrades. But it's unclear what this means exactly.”

Ahmad continued on to report that “an Xbox fanboy claimed on Weibo [a Chinese Twitter-like service] that they reported to authorities about certain back door elements that are easily accessible to switch to overseas services. Was taken down right after. So let’s see what happens.”

Only officially approved games are available in the Chinese PlayStation Store; Ahmad continued to say he believes the investigation will allow check for back doors to other PSN storefronts or services.
