Call Of Duty Modern Warare's Tamagotchi

Before Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s release in October of last year, we reported on the inclusion addition of an in-game wearable Tamagotchi knock-off. Now, months into the game’s lifespan, the developer’s promise has finally come to fruition and the item is now available from the in-game store for 1,000 COD Points as part of the Tomogunchi bundle.

According to the multiplayer designer director, Geoff Smith, this off-the-wall idea is the brainchild of the game’s art director, Joel Emslie and his passion for designing watches. Adding an in-game watch that syncs up to the player’s real-time was an early milestone for the development team who after increasingly imaginative brainstorming sessions landed on the idea of implementing a digital pet, inspired by the Tamagotchi, that players can equip during the multiplayer and co-op modes.

Tomagunchi owners will need to make kills and continue killstreaks to keep their digital friend well-fed and in good spirits. Poor performance will upset your Tamagunchi who will then demand that you do better and if you don’t take care of it, according to Smith, tragically, “it will rot and die”. The Tomagunchi isn’t a mandatory feature and provides only cosmetic benefits for players of Call of Duty but is sure to add something a little more lighthearted than the gritty, gory realism of the single-player campaign and intensive multiplayer modes.
